New EP "Somewhere in Between" is out now!

Somewhere in Between EP

Somewhere in Between creates a cinematic, weather-beaten americana universe that pulls listeners into dusty backroads and dim bars where lonesome characters navigate the tension between connection and escape.

Runaways EP

Released in October 2024 Runaways tells of a long, rugged journey. At times a melancholic exploration of love and loss on a road that feels both endless and uncertain, it also reveals our natural curiosity and the search for meaning in the simple yet profound experiences of life. 🤘

About

Holden Reed live at Globe Hall -- We swear we had a drummer there.

Holden Reed is an alternative/folk band formed in Denver, Colorado, in 2022. With a blend of acoustic and electric guitars, drums, electric bass, violin, whistles, claps, screams (nothing too scary) and anything else that emerges in the moment, we produce a sound that we hope resonates with authenticity and emotion.

We love making noise and telling stories.

members

Jon Licht (guitar, lead vocals, anything and everything)
Just ridiculously talented. This guy wrote songs for the TV show Dexter and cool video games and shit.

Dave Dyer (drums)
Plays a mean "Every Rose Has It's Thorns" cover on guitar. Also REALLY likes to talk to people. Has an odd tendency to be inadvertantely occluded from live show pictures.

Eric Buckley (lead guitar, vocals)
Rumor has it he's the son of a California senator. Well, he looks like he could be. In charge of blistering solos.

Chris Skudlarczyk (bass, vocals)
We're considering replacing him with a backing track.

Julia (violin)
Not always in the lineup, but always the coolest person in the band.

Runaways

Says she wants to be inside that painting on the wall
I take a sip of whiskey, smile say whats the point at all?
She don't care, and whats the point in askin

Flash of green, the curtains, and a smile means most anything
Searching for a message in the night what will it bring
Get some air, fuck it light another lets go

They say the truth it lies somewhere in between
All your wants and all your unforgiving needs
She let me take her picture in the moonlight laying there
The more I know, the less I know
I'm moving down, this lonesome road

Runaways lost on the road, 30 miles to Illinois
Stranger on the radio, it's filtered through the noise
Sweet air, it's early in the morning
An old forgotten respite, on the outskirts of town
She smiles the valley wide as she puts her nickel down
Play her song, the music is the answer

They say the truth it lies somewhere in between
All your wants and all your unforgiving needs
She let me take her picture in the moonlight laying there
The more I know, the less I know
I'm moving down, this lonesome road

Freedom Song

So cold the river
So high the mountain
So low the valley
So strong the wind
Stuck in a downpour
It soaks your skin
And now you're screaming out
Not this again!

But something's creeping
Something's telling me

There's some blue skies coming
Right around the bend
We'll be better off
Just hold on tight my friend

I know it's hard, so hard to move
But we'll keep on moving on
I know it's hard, so hard to move
So we'll sing this freedom song

So tight the grip is
So tall the towers
Where the lowly find a voice
In these waning hours
We must move upward
Despite our sin
To new horizons
Begin again

There's some blue skies coming
Right around the bend
We'll be better off
Just hold on tight my friend

I know it's hard, so hard to move
But we'll keep on moving on
I know it's hard, so hard to move
So we'll sing this freedom song

Overdrive

Goin to California, guitar in my hand
Traces of you with me, remnants of a plan
Smoke down in the valley, iridescent haze
Rolling hills around me, off the bright blue sky it plays

I see your face in crowded rooms
From subway stations to market aisles
Would you sing if I changed my tune?
I ought to

Castles built around me, I'm drifting through these walls
Drink their wine and play some, melancholy songs

I see your face in crowded rooms
From subway stations to market aisles
Would you sing if I changed my tune?
I mean to

We met in Arizona, she was reading history
Two weeks in Colorado, glued to a TV screen
Now it's three in the morning she can't sleep in the freezing cold
Lean months on the highway, she's scared of growing old

I see your face in crowded rooms
From subway stations to market aisles
Would you sing if I changed my tune?
I ought to

We met in Arizona, she was reading history
Two weeks in Colorado, glued to a TV screen
Now it's three in the morning she can't sleep in the freezing cold
Lean months on the highway, she's scared of growing old

Dancin Shoes

Another day, one more night
another trip around the world
She's lookin fine, in torn up sleeves
don't need a fair weather girl

So meet me, in the moment
Let's drive up miles to that old room
Tonight, we'll be together
And put on your dancin shoes
Yea put on your dancin shoes

Wrecked the car, around a pole
I pulled myself from midst the wreck
Flash a smile, red sequin dress
Gold shimmers round her neck

So meet me, in the moment
Let's drive up miles to that old room
Tonight, we'll be together
And put on your dancin shoes
Yea put on your dancin shoes

Little Bird

Born with eyes upon the stars, she's returnin, little footsteps
Blackboards singing, pointed shoes, fires burning, soaring above

Light as air, pull the sails, chasing wonder
Take these wings, the peace they bring, reconnecting
So go on, fly on home little bird

Paper planes to find the edge, fill in the middle, matching colors
Breathing deep to climb the scales, to hear the music, become the music

Light as air, pull the sails, chasing wonder
Take these wings, the peace they bring, reconnecting
So go on, fly on home little bird

Up and down, and side to side, can't find the words for, saying goodbye
Laughing, dancing in the halls, a little girl with stars in her eyes

Light as air, pull the sails, chasing wonder
Take these wings, the peace they bring, reconnecting
So go on, fly on home little bird

Somewhere in Between

One for the road, she pours a tall one he settles in
I'm drinking alone, it's all the same she says with a smile
She's sure she knows his pain, she knows that soon he will be gone
He slips into the rain, with words unsaid he's traveling on

Two hearts can beat as one, when distant stars align
And when the heavy day is done just ease my troubled mind

Dust from the wood, last call a withered man remains
He's understood, home for the filthy and the strange
She knows the truth, she's seen every kind of man
before she's serving you, she's begun to understand

Two hearts can beat as one, when distant stars align
And when the heavy day is done just ease my troubled mind

Walls closing in, she left everything behind
1200 miles, and still her eyes are kind
She sleeps under the stars, from miles away they share the night
New town but same old bars,he's coming with the morning light

Two hearts can beat as one, when distant stars align
And when the heavy day is done just ease my troubled mind

Lemonade

High tops in a breadline, fears from others worlds, my darling girl
Two taps on a high wire, bleed for Eleanor, Sweet Eleanor

And it goes on, and on it goes, what comes around, comes back up
Some place far from here, a bloody nose, wipe it up

Makin lemonade when Hollywood turned sour
Placin calls when all the static will allow
These land-lines, these pay phones won't dial

Four words like a memory, dirty windowsill, wooden shoes
These hills were built on smiles, her curves become the narrow moves
And it goes on, and on it goes, what comes around, comes back up
Some place far away from here, a bloody nose, wipe it up

Makin lemonade when Hollywood turned sour
Placin calls when all the static will allow
These land-lines, these pay phones won't dial

April Snow

She'll wait for me she's, in the weeds ya know
It's hard for me to, sleep she stalks my dreams
It's warm today but it's cold tomorrow
The coast is clear but not for long

A form a torture she knows, my love it lingers below Well here she goes

I don't need you, anymore
Your photo fades in the hallway drawer
Why won't you believe I'd rather be alone
In spring you know she'll show
Ms. April Snow

Those winter leaves, they're dry and brittle
Under our slow steps we try to be
It's warm today but it's cold tomorrow
The coast is clear but not for long
A form a torture she knows, my love it lingers below
Well here she goes

I don't need you, anymore
Your photo fades in the hallway drawer
Why won't you believe I'd rather be alone
In spring you know she'll show
Ms. April Snow

Wanderlust

Stepping off of the merry go round
Take me back onto solid ground
It stings my eyes, the light of day
Watch her go, watch her fade away

She cries for the weak, she weeps for the poor
With truth in her eyes
So run for the hills, find solace alone
Find peace in your mind
And don't ever lose your wanderlust heart

All she knows, so much to behold
Chasing ghosts, hills are painted gold
And if you can break away from all the madness, chaos and the greed
You can find a purpose, you can find you have everything that you need

She cries for the weak, she weeps for the poor
With truth in her eyes
So run for the hills, find solace alone
Find peace in your mind
And don't ever lose your wanderlust heart

Devils

Three ghosts on the horizon
Glimmering gold, glimmering gold
With smiles they spoke of saviors
The stories they told, the stories they told

Lord we've suffered, a lifetimes worth by now

What is this spell we're under?
Forever young, forever young
There's blood up on the hills now
Devils have come, Devils have come

Lord they've suffered, a lifetimes worth by now
You know we've suffered, a lifetimes worth by now

What will they write years from now, do you
Ever wonder where you, where you came from
What you're made of?

Devils have come...

Old withered men can still dream
Blood in their mouths, blood in their mouths

Lord they've suffered, a lifetimes worth by now
You know we've suffered, a lifetimes worth by now

What will they write years from now, do you
Ever wonder where you, where you came from
What you're made of?

Devils have come...

Dead Man Walking

Well in them long black cars of that lonesome train
Rolling down just once a day
I can hear'em talkin I can hear'em laugh
And yeah I hear'em say my name

Well I'm a wanted man an outlaw law it seems
I laugh when I hear'em cry
Yeah I've done good deeds and everything between
I've got the devil on my side

I'm a dead man walkin… Yeah I'm a dead man walkin
I can hear'em stalkin' me… Yeah, I'm a dead man…

And I can feel it now when I close my eyes
The end of this sullen road
Yeah I've been around this barren land
I got nowhere left to go

So I set my back against an old oak try
As a smile creeps on my face
I think of nights I think of my love's eyes
I dream in echoes, the sound it makes

Cause I'm a dead man walkin…
Yeah I'm a dead man walkin
I can hear'em stalkin' me…
Yeah, I'm a dead man…

Faint grunts and huffs, chatter, spit I'm up
Cold steel against my head
Hey here's that boy I hear he's worth more alive then dead
So they drag me down to that loathsome town
And throw away the key
Now I spend my nights prayin' wishin' hopin'
They'd take my life from me

Cause I'm a dead man walkin…
Yeah I'm a dead man walkin
I can hear'em stalkin' me…
Yeah, I'm a dead man…
